The quest for a good $20 Pinot Noir led us to the 2011 For a Song Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley. It was made by Stewart Boedecker and Athena Pappas using fruit from two vineyards, Holmes Gap and Walnut Hill, both located in or near the Eola-Amity AVA. It shows plenty of clean ripe Pinot Noir fruit. Nine months in French oak with lees stirring gave the wine its silky texture. Only 500 cases of this wine were produced. We recommend stashing a few in the cellar.

2009 Beaucastel Futures

2008 Vieux Telegraphe

We are now offering the 2009 vintage of Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape for sale as futures. The 2009 Chateauneuf-du-Papes are being heralded as similar to the outstanding 2007 vintage. Payment is due upon confirmation of your order, with delivery expected in late 2011. We are including Proprietor Marc Perrin’s descriptions and Robert Parker’s reviews for your consideration.

2009 Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 750ml Regular Retail 102.00 Futures Price 84.95 net

“Nearly black in color. The nose is both delicate and powerful at the same time, red fruit, black currants, blackberries, spices, thyme and lavender. The bouquet is very elegant, rich and round. Figs, cherries, black currants, all with a great acidity. The tannins are present but very delicate.” – Marc Perrin “The 2009 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape (30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise and the balance other permitted varietals) exhibits an opaque purple color as well as sweet aromas of camphor, truffles, black cherries, black currants, licorice, pepper and forest floor. The wine is full-bodied, rich, intense and powerful.” – Robert Parker, 92-95 points

2009 Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 1.5L Regular Retail 200.00 Futures Price 169.95 net (Description above)

2009 Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape 375ml Regular Retail 52.00 Futures Price 43.95 net (Description above)

2009 Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 750ml Regular Retail 102.00 Futures Price 84.95 net
“Beautiful golden yellow color. The nose is mineral with notes of white flowers, honey and marmalade. The mouth is round and rich with yellow fruits (peaches and apricots) followed by notes of salted butter caramel, and a slightly salty finish.” – Marc Perrin
“The 2009 Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc reveals the great intensity, richness and potential longevity of this vintage. Made from the same blend as the 2008 (80% Roussanne and 20% Grenache Blanc vinified in tank and wood), the 2009 sees some new oak (15%), but that component is totally hidden by copious notes of quince, honeyed citrus, peaches and apricots. With good acidity as well as a full-bodied mouthfeel, this stunning white should evolve for 7-8 years or longer.” – Robert Parker, 94-96 points

2009 Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Vielle Vignes (Roussanne) 750ml Regular Retail 175.00 Futures Price 149.95 net
“Beautiful golden color. Aromatic explosion of honey, peaches, exotic fruit and an exceptional richness and intensity. The palate has a remarkable texture, thick but fresh. We find notes of white flowers and honeysuckle, lavender, honey, and orange zest. The balance is perfect, especially with the minerality, coming from the limestone, giving this wine a fabulous texture. A great vintage of Roussanne Vieilles Vignes.” - Marc Perrin
“The Beaucastel 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Roussanne Vieilles Vignes is off-the-charts in terms of richness. Aged in one-year-old barrels (50%) and new oak (50%), with no malolactic, it boasts stunning aromas and flavors of marmalade, peaches, apricots, nectarines, mangoes, rose petals, creme brulee and buttered citrus. This full-bodied, gorgeously rich, voluptuously textured white has enough acidity to carry it for a decade or more.” – Robert Parker, 95-98 points

“The 2009 Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc (40% Clairette, 30% Grenache Blanc, 15% Roussanne and 15% Bourboulenc) exhibits delicate floral notes interwoven with hints of pears, nectarines, red currants and crushed rocks. The soils are sparse in the region, consisting of clay and limestone. This is a fresh wine, with only 11.5° alcohol. It has a pale yellow color, with a mineral aroma that features white flowers—acacia blossom and lilies. The wine doesn’t undergo malolactic fermentation, keeping it racy and crisp. This is a great seafood white, that also works well with Asian spices.

These are pure, complex single-solera sherries that receive extended ageing in their cellars. The Fernando de Castilla Fino has a pale golden color, with a complex aroma from longer than usual ageing in oak. The Fernando de Castilla Palo Cortado is amber colored, and has an unbelievable nose of almonds and straw. The Fernando de Castilla Oloroso is quite aromatic and dry, with hints of nuts and orange peel. Each of these have exciting long finishes and aftertastes.

IT’S BAAA AAACK!
NOW IN STOCK AT THE SHOPS

2010 MCCARTHY & SCHIERING CABERNET SAUVIGNON

22.95 net

This is one of our favorite wines to sell each year, and clearly you agree, as it manages to sell out quickly. Contractually we can’t tell you who makes it, but if you knew, it would probably disappear in a matter of days, not weeks or months! Consider purchasing it by the case, or multiple cases. Amaze your friends with the quality. Stash a supply for Summer BBQ’s, parties, or to give away as corporate gifts during the December holiday season later this year.

The 2010 McCarthy & Schiering Cabernet Sauvignon has arrived in the shops, and it is an exciting wine! Made for the eighth consecutive year by the Palette Wine Company of Snohomish, Washington, this Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold expression of Washington fruit from some of the state’s best vineyards. The balance and complexity in this wine is exceptional! A total of 400 cases were produced, and while this may sound like a lot, past history indicates that it will sell through rapidly.

“Vintners in Washington have to think back to 1999 for a vintage as cool as 2010. That’s cool as in not-hot weather through the growing season, resulting in excellent acidity levels and bright fruit flavors, more so than in a typical Washington vintage. But also cool as in wines with more individuality and personality than usual.” – Wine Spectator
