Mönchhof (Monk’s House) is one of the oldest wine estates in the Mosel. It was formerly in the possession of the Kloster Himmerod, a Cisterian Abbey, and records exist dating it to 1177. Today the estate is run by the affable Robert Eymael Jr. and the holdings include superb sites in Ürziger Würzgarten, Erdener Treppchen, and Erdener Prälat. The 2010 vintage in the Mosel offers pure and truly refreshing wines that have firm acidity. They are simply delicious to drink in the spring.

2010 Le Pigeoulet
The ‘house wine’ at Les Vignobles Brunier, the 2010 Pigeoulet en Provence is named for the lieu-dit where the family home and the Vieux Télégraphe offices and cellars are located. It is a spicy blend of Grenache and Carignan from two very different vineyard sites. The result is a ‘baby’ Châteauneuf-du-Pape with a price that isn’t even close.
